Laingsburg, the Western Cape Gateway to the Central Karoo District, has often been referred to as the “Diamond” of the Karoo. Despite the reduced economic growth over the past years, the town still has a growing local economy, which is centred primarily on transport and community service.
Unemployment is a problem in the area, but the local municipality is constantly addressing this problem through employment through capital programs and the promotion of LED.
The concept of Developmental Local Government has created a lot of expectation from communities which local government has to deal with and these challenges has place a tremendous pressure on local authorities. As the Executive Mayor of Laingsburg municipality I therefore cannot fail to adhere to the outcry of our community.
Skills Development is a major concern for us as municipality and it is evident in our Local Economic Development Strategy.
This is for this reason why we as the municipality is embarking on this venture of a Mayoral Golfday to raise fund for a Mayoral Fund to enable our youth to play a meaningful role in society
All proceeds will be used for various deserving cases such as the youth and elderly, also to assist those in need within our communities.
We also envisage that this will be Annual event on our calendar.
